Apparatus
The Burbank Fire Department has several types of apparatus including Engines, Trucks, Rescue Ambulances, a Hazardous Materials vehicle and a Battalion 1 vehicle.
The Burbank Fire Department's apparatus maintenance shop is staffed by two highly trained and qualified civilians. They are on call for emergencies on a 24-hour basis. Their responsibilities include:
- overseeing maintenance, repair and service testing of all apparatus
- managing all vehicle expenses such as fuel, tires and repair parts
Engine 11
Engine 11 is a 2017 KME Pumper equipped with a 500 gallon water tank and a Waterous Pump, which is a two stage centrifugal pump capable of flowing 1,500 gallons of water per minute. An engine provides the primary firefighting agent (water) and the personnel to use on the fireground. The objectives of an engine company are to rescue victims, protect exposures, confine and extinguish the fire, and perform overhaul operations. Also, Engine 11 carries emergency medical equipment.
Truck 11
Truck 11 is a 2009 Seagrave Tractor Drawn Aerial Ladder Truck powered by a Cummins turbocharged diesel engine. The ladder is a Seagrave 100 foot, four section, medium duty, truss beam constructed, steel aerial ladder. The truck is essentially a giant toolbox that allows the truck company to perform these various specialized fireground operations:
- Search and rescue
- Vehicle extrication
- Forcible entry
- Placement of ladders
- Putting elevated heavy streams into operation
- Salvage
- Overhaul
- Securing of utilities
- Ventilation
- Assisting engine companies in checking for horizontal/vertical fire extension
Rescue Ambulance (RA) 13
RA13 is a 2020 RAM 4500 Regular Cab Chassis with an attached module for patient care. It is staffed by two Firefighter/Paramedics who respond to a variety of emergencies in addition to 911 medical calls. RA13 is outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment to triage, treat and transport patients safely and efficiently. RA13 is equipped with electrocardiograms (12-lead EKGs), medicine, swift-water and forcible entry tools. It responds to medical emergencies with a fire engine to provide the best possible service.
Battalion 1
Battalion 1 has a rear command console that allows Burbank Fire Department Chief Officers the ability to provide enhanced efficiency and fire ground safety during any incident. The vehicle is equipped with radios to allow seamless interoperable communication with all surrounding agencies and has a small flat screen television mounted on the rear command console to provide Incident Commanders with real time video footage of events. During an incident, the rear console becomes a command center for Chief Officers providing them with the necessary information and equipment to meet the immediate needs of the community, while also fulfilling the department's obligation to the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services, Master Mutual Aid Agreement.
HazMat 12
HazMat 12 is a 2006 Seagrave Hazardous Materials Response Unit staffed with 4 HazMat Specialists. It carries all the equipment needed to meet the Office of Emergency Services Type 1 requirements. Some of the HazMat 12 equipment includes:
