As part of the Fire Prevention Bureau, the Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA) / Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Program conducts inspections that focus on HazMat management including regulations pertaining to aboveground and underground storage tanks. In the City of Burbank, Hazardous Waste Management is regulated by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

For additional information, visit our California Environmental Reporting System (CERS) and Underground Storage Tanks pages.

To review HazMat records, email your request to the Burbank Fire Prevention Bureau at BurbankFPB@burbankca.gov. You may access GeoTracker, a public database of underground storage tanks.

For HazMat Fees, refer to the Citywide Fee Schedule, Article V - Public Safety.

Ammonia Refrigeration Valve Safety Alert
Ammonia is one of the primary chemicals inadvertently released. During the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Division of Environmental and Occupational Disease Control’s discussions with facility representatives, a faulty valve is often given as the reason for the release. Refer to the CDPH alert regarding two refrigeration valve recalls.
