The City of Burbank has opened the application and testing period for Firefighter Recruit! The online application period is open from Monday, April 3, 2017 through 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2017. Interested individuals should visit the City of Burbank’s online employment center at www.burbankca.gov/jobs to apply.
The selection process for a Firefighter Recruit includes (but is not limited to): written test, interviews, physical ability test and background investigation. After successfully completing the entry level requirements, the candidate will be trained during the Firefighter Recruit Academy.
The Burbank Fire Department (BFD) is a full service fire agency that protects over 17.16 square miles. The resident population of Burbank is approximately 108,000. In Fiscal Year 2015-2016, the call volume was about 10,600 with 82% of incidents being emergency medical services (EMS) related. There are a total of 136 BFD employees (120 sworn and 16 civilian) and the annual General Fund operating budget is approximately $33 million.
BFD provides a variety of services to the community including fire suppression, EMS, fire prevention, hazardous materials response, emergency management, residential and commercial inspections, and public education. BFD is an Internationally Accredited Agency by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International/Center for Public Safety Excellence and has received a Class 1 Public Protection Classification rating from the Insurance Services Office.
